Savannah Port: Tops Nation For Growth

According to the Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals' (CSCMP) 20th annual "State of Logistics Report", traffic through the nation’s ports shrunk 2.6% in 2008. Savannah was home to one of only three ports to show any growth in TEU’s (twenty foot equivalent units). All of the other top ten ports lost traffic. Per the state of Georgia's "Center for Innovation" website, at 3.65% TEU volume growth, the Port of Savannah had the largest increase of all top ten ports.

The recently approved road and bridge that will provide direct access from the north to the south end of the Garden City Terminal, the future addition of high-speed container handling equipment & the eventual deepening of the Savannah Harbor from 42 to 48 feet, will all add to Savannah's ability to increase efficiencies & capture more business. Over the long term, this will help our warehouse vacancies and as the economy improves, hopefully spur further industrial & manufacturing development.
